Hello All Squash Players -

Time to start playing squash again! Our cheerleader and motivational speaker, John Stavrinides, has moved on to the frozen north, but there is still a lot of squash to be played in southern AZ. Here are some possibilities:

  1. Try to make the ladder work
  2. Have bi-monthly competitions against a Team JCC
  3. League Teams
  4. Have home-away match against ASU or Phoenix Teams
  5. Actually practice and do drills! (If John S could learn proper squash, anybody can)
  6. Have Squash Club meet informally twice a week

Gary Johns has taken over the Pro position at Lifetime Fitness Phoenix – maybe we could him to come down for a demonstration. Also – Grand Canyon Games Winter will be held at Phoenix Lifetime on January 29-Feb 1 – match more competition and fun. Please let me know if you are interested and emails of any other squash players. I have included a couple new players who I have met over the summer.

The Student vs. Faculty Squash Match was held on Dead Day (May 3) and the students lived up to the day’s name! In five hard fought matches, the Faculty was victorious in all matches and proved that experience and wisdom can (occasionally) win out over youth! A good time was had by all and we should definitely make this an annual (or semester) event! Please forward this to any one you know who plays squash and I will start a squash email list for news (see below) and matches etc. Also – JOIN THE LADDER and let’s start making it more active. Chris does a fabulous job running the Arizona Squash web page – so use it! Thanks to all and have a great squashing summer! Read the rest of this entry »

The faculty and staff take on the students starting at 16:00.

Hopefully the old folks will do better than we did against the students at the Grand Canyon State Games ;-)

Good luck to all. Have a great time. See you there.

Results will be posted here as we get them.

The UA Squash Club dominated the GCSG. Jason Newport won the B division. Andrew McLaren won the C division. Dan Huebner finished second in the C division. That’s 2 out of 3 for the UA.

Here are the players (Andrew, Jason, Dan) and Peter Reinthal, GCSG Commissioner and UA Squash Club advisor.
