The Squash Official for April 2008 And so begins the end – of this season. They say that if people really understood each other, they would never agree. Is mutual misunderstanding the key to our success in demystifying the rules of Squash?
It’s been a while. I haven’t seen a paper copy of the TSO in years. Thought that Barry had “retired”.
A wonderful take on the game of squash with valuable information and some fun as well.

Squash is one of the most “open” sports, a sport in which players must effectively read, react, and make decisions in a constantly changing environment. Why then do most coaches run “closed” training sessions where no decisions are necessary?
See how ready my racquet is? I actually saw this picture between games (I guess you could call that coaching) and I changed my “approach”.
Wound up losing in 5 after being down 2-0.

An hour of squash is estimated to burn between 700 and 1,000 calories, 70 percent more than either tennis or racquetball.“Because the court’s a lot smaller and the ball doesn’t bounce nearly as much, the game is played at a much faster pace,” Russell said.

Since 1978, Dick has competed in 24 national championships held in 16 cities throughout the U.S. He has won 16 national titles and been a finalist 8 times. He first won in the Men’s 55+ and subsequently won the Men’s 60+, 65+, 70+, 75+ and 80+. I don’t know of any man who has won national titles in six age groups.
Dick has won five consecutive titles from 1983 through 1988. Over the years, the cities where he has won are Boston, Portland OR, San Francisco, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Houston, Denver, Hartford, and Seattle, (some repeats).
The guy who beat Dick this year was Mike Solin from New York. They played two years ago and Mike got only 3 or 4 points in the whole match. Since then Mike has been playing with an Australian pro in New York and has greatly improved. In the past, Mike had won only about one or two national titles, so this was a big upset. Other factors were that the courts were very dead compared to our courts here and they came up with a new ball, the PRO version that Dick had never played with before. Its characteristics were different from the DOUBLE DOT we trained with. No excuses, they all played with the same ball on the same courts. Dick says he has to work harder next time. There is always next year
